My mission statement
Knowledge is power and Education is the key to success and we are the agents of change who design and innovate learning spaces for our students.
“750 million people... lack the basic literacy skills to participate in today’s digital world ...(they have) no social cohesion (and will) develop feelings of exclusion and lack of self-confidence” (Princess Laurentien, 2017) They need to develop "Digitally-mediated knowledge ... (or) new ... higher-level literacy skills” ((UNESCO, Bokova, 2017) to survive in the 21st Ccentury.

Girls Education
The importance of educating girls
Globally, Girls and "young women account for 59 percent of the total illiterate youth population. The children of mothers who cannot read are far more likely to live in poverty than the children of women who graduated from secondary school or higher" (TWB).
Most of the Syrian population is Muslim and Islam encourages people to have lifelong learning. The knowledgeable people in Islam, are well educated and girls are generally given the opportunity to learn.
A Muslim mothers' role is to teach the children as well as look after them. The fathers' role is to provide for the household including for their education.
As the Syrian refugees are now spread across the globe they must maintain this lifelong learning. Girls need to continue their education and lifelong learning too just as much as the boys. As mothers and teachers it is our duty to make sure they maintain a positive outlook on life even through the hardship. They must not loose hope in themselves and their ability. They are the key to rebuilding their culture and society again from the ground up, one person at a time. "You can do it" is my message to you from down under, Australia.

Knowledge is Power
Literacy is the key.
"115 million young people between the ages of 15 and 24 around the world... cannot read, (UNICEF).
Literacy is the key to unlocking ignorance in the 21st Century e-Space and moving forward and upwards in the Personal Learning Space. Everyone has the power to improve when given positive support and encouragement no matter what conditions they live under. As educators we are agents of mind-set change and positive supports of change. We need to believe in our students and tell them " you can do it." Everyone has the power to shine and improve their condition.
As globally we have moved closer together through cyber space, social media has become the new form of literacy. No one can afford not to embrace it. Children are motivated and drawn towards it.
The contents of "what is in my bag?" showed that most of the teenagers and adult refugees fleeing the Syrian civil war carried a mobile phone and charger. It is their lifeline and link to family left behind and their access to services in their new environment.
My mother is illiterate because she was ill and missed a lot of school. She is the youngest of eight from Syrian parents. All her siblings completed their schooling. Now at the age of eighty she still regrets not continuing her education. Not being able to read has made her life a struggle as she has to get people to read her mail or fill in forms and then trust becomes a major issue. She has trouble answering her cell phone when messages pop up or finding contacts. The Smart TV is also another issue. These are just basic things we all take for granted.
Literacy is power to freedom and Education is Knowledge and lifelong learning.
